And one of the losers win?

So now you know about Susan Boyle, too. Susan the loner; Susan the victim of children turned nasty, menacing bullies; Susan the loyal daughter who cared for her frail mother while living on the dole; Susan, the apparent loser who, solidly against the odds, got the recognition that her obvious talent merits.

Let's hope she survives all the attention and the sudden onslaught of media surveillance. Because there will be people who will try to make as much of a profit out of her vocal beauty as they possibly can. And there will be well-wishers and career consultants that will try to rub shoulders with the new celebrity. And there will likely be a lot of money to be made from prime-time television interviews, or books about her years in total anonymity, and - who knows - some film producer may pounce on the rights to make a feature film that may gross countless millions.

Because we love stories about the Cinderella's, the qualified Underdogs, that are catapulted from obscurity to house-hold name status. And in this case, I have to admit, I really think she's entitled to her spot in the limelight. She's the loser that had the guts to walk onto a stage facing a panel of merciless judges and a crowd ready to drown out her voice with a cacophony of boos and jeers. But instead of being made subject to total humiliation, Susan the apparent loser turned Susan the unlikely winner. She certainly had a field day. Congratulations, Susan. You won't be unemployed for long after this.
