Paranormal activity

For quite some time it's been common knowledge around these parts that a prominent member of our royal family, the princess Märtha Louise, allegedly possesses paranormal abilities. She even claims to be able to communicate with so-called guardian angels, and would like to teach you to do that as well. For a sizeable fee.

The money question aside, I still feel queasy when the head of Astarte Education openly propagates the notion that you can somehow get in touch with these unseen entities, with a view to somehow acquiring a deep, hidden wisdom you hadn''t got before. It's not that I think she's lost her sanity because she claims access to this spiritual realm. On the contrary, I'm convinced she's right to conclude that her guardian angels are real, albeit invisible to the human eye. The problem lies in the fact that these being are most likely not what they're pretending to be.

BANQUETING WITH THE SPIRIT WORLD

Well over a century ago, Europe's royal houses were littered with people obsessed with spirituality. The big craze seemed to e.g. be seances where the grieving living sought consolation through establishing contact with the spirits of their deceased ones. Famous and feted mediums were the channels through which communication was allgedly achieved, and many became believers in the reality of an afterlife - and in the imminent possibility of a reunion behind the veil of death. So far, so good?

I think not. I've already confessed to belonging to the camp of those who think that the concept of reality advocated by natural scientists is deficient: too much out there remains that cannot be properly accounted for without recourse to the existence of an unseen world. But where some regard all beings inhabiting such a sphere as benevolent guides towards an improved existence for all, I chose to echo the warning that one of the leaders of the budding Christian community of the ancient world issued in one of his letters:

"I don't want you to become part of something that reduces you to something less than yourself. And you can't have it both ways, banqueting with the Master (Jesus) one day and slumming with demons the next." (1. Corinthians, 10 (The Message))

SCRIPTURE DRAWS THE DIVIDING LINE

The Bible distinguishes between two diametrically opposed main groups of spirit beings. First is what can collectively be termed Yahweh's, God's, angels. These angels do not serve our plans, they do not answer our direct calls, but they do interfere and intervene - on divine command - in the daily humdrum events or fever-pitched dramas of indivuals or nations.

All would have been well if only this kind of unseen helpers were around. But this coin, this unseen reality has a flip side, too. It comes in the ugly deceptions carried out by a second main group of antagonistic spirits. Far from being the horrendous-looking monsters of your worst nightmares, these beings may appear to you as powerful emissaries of light, offering aid at the very lowest point in your life. The Christian Scriptures even acknowledge this possibility:

"And no wonder! Satan does it all the time, dressing up as a beautiful angel of light. So it shouldn't suprise us when his servants masquerade as servants of God" (2. Corinthians, 11 (The Message))

THE HELPERS YOU SHOULD FLEE FROM

The main point of what I'm trying to relay to you, is that these purported angels of good will, these guardian angels, may very likely turn out to be the exact opposite from what they're posing off as. Even when offering help, even when providing a way out of your immediate problems, you are constantly risking being mislead, misguided, kept in total darkness as to the real reason, the ulterior motives, behind their keen interest in you.

So many people have escaped from the grip of these beings, testifying that what initially bore the semblance of liberation and healing influence, soon reversed to crippling captivity and ill fortune. It matters little that our dear princess has come to know them as friends and allies in therapy. Any spirit being that doesn't proclaim the lordship of Jesus Christ, any being that doesn't openly serve the purposes of Christ, will eventually turn against you - to destroy you.

So I totally reject the counsel or help from any of princess Märtha Louise's guardian angels. I chose another source for calm and comfort. It's totally risk-free.

And it has a name. And it is really a He.......
