Answer-key to 'Heroes of the past: #4

Hats off two anyone who got this one right, as this pair are fairly unknown outside of home turf. Sophie and Hans Scholl died at age 22 and 25 respectively, being summarily executed after a mock trial that lasted only a few days. More people would eventually lose their lives as perverted Nazi 'justice' rolled on to crush its victims, but few people deserved their fate less than these two did.

But even if tyranny tried to erase their names from memory, today Germany prizes their legacies as Sophie Scholl a few years back was voted the most important German woman of the 20'th century. And Hans hasn't been forgotten either. Hundreds of schools throughout the nation bear his and his sister's names. Adolph Hitler lives on in infamy. Sophie and Hans Scholl are still spoken of with admiration and gratitude by today's young Germans.

Fancy that, Hermann (Göring)!
